Ajay Devgan's Son of Sardar Review

Ajay Devgan's Son of Sardar Review

Cast:Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt, Juhi Chawla
Director: Ashwni Dhir

boxofficecapsule

After all the controversies and fist fights, Bollywood's big Diwali clash is here. Ajay Devgn's latest offering "Son Of Sardaar" (SOS) is his latest bet on entering the big leagues of Khans.

Director Ashiwn Dheer does decent job considering his earlier disastrous outing in "One Two Three" and "Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge". Still it is Ajay who saves the film despite bad writing and not so tight direction. You almost feel bad for Ajay as he and the film both miss somebody like Rohit Shetty.

Overall film is a good entertainer and works for the audience who doesn't mind a weak script and senseless comedy. This can be taken as next installment of "Rowdy Rathore" or "Bodyguard".

Rating : 3/5
Business rating : 3.5/5

The film has a very strong supporting cast and I'd like to single out Mukul Dev for his fantastic performance. His performance is truly first-rate. It's a delight watching Tanuja, one of the finest actresses, after a hiatus. She's wonderful, especially in the final moments of the film. Vindu Dara Singh is hilarious, while Rajesh Vivek leaves an impression. Arjan Bajwa does well in a brief role. Puneet Issar and Mukesh Tiwari are efficient in cameos. On the whole, SON OF SARDAAR is for lovers of hardcore masala movies. If you liked WANTED, DABANGG and ROWDY RATHORE, chances are you will relish SON OF SARDAAR as well. The North Indian audiences in particular and those residing abroad will be simply delighted by this chatpata, masaledaar fare. A wholesome entertainer in the festive period. Go, have a blast!

It takes a mini deluge to bring Son of Sardaar to an end. In the climactic duel between the protagonist (Ajay Devgn) and his chief adversary (Sanjay Dutt), the former is hurled against a water tank. On impact, the thick reservoir wall caves in and a torrent gushes out, carrying bricks, mortar and the two brawling men with it.

After propagating a rustic blood feud for over two hours, the film, by way of closure, invokes the wise words of a spiritual apostle to advocate peace. Forgiveness yields love and love yields God, one character pipes up. No offence meant, Son of Sardaar deserves no form of absolution, no matter who or what your God is. Poppycock in Phagwara: that is what the film should have been named. While the men on the screen defy gravity at will, the narrative defies logic without a care. Looking for genuine fireworks this Diwali? Look elsewhere

SRK's Jab Tak Hai Jaan Review

SRK's Jab Tak Hai Jaan Review
SRK's Jab Tak Hai Jaan Review

Filmfare :

Words will not do justice to the swan song of a great filmmaker, but one has to try. So here it goes. Some people really know how to make a film. Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ) is Yash Chopra’s last film as director and it’s a film rich in philosophy, poetic love and honest emotions. Like any piece of commercial cinema, it has its cinematic liberties and plot holes. But the sum of it is an old school love story that weaves its magic on the tender hearts of die-hard romantics. The King of romance lives up to his epithet.
But JTHJ is so much more than its flawless visual appeal. AR Rahman’s music and background score adds a touch of magic to the proceedings. It complements the actors’ performances perfectly. Shah Rukh Khan makes a stunning entry, he owns the screen space and he weaves his charisma into a net that holds JTHJ together. Especially effective are his scenes as the reserved army officer. Katrina Kaif is just a thing of beauty. That she looks stunning is a given, but she manages to give one of her career’s finest performances as Meera. Her underplay is the perfect contrast to Anushka’s lively and bubbly act. Anushka lightens JTHJ with energy, while Katrina anchors it with firm emotions. At a gracious 3 hours runtime, JTHJ feels like an epic love story. And it is just that. JTHJ is the perfect adieu to a hallmark career. It is the best romantic film made in this generation.

There are films and then there are events. A Yash Chopra film is always an event to celebrate love, passion and cinema. For last 20 years, Yash Chopra and SRK combo gave some finest moments on celluloid, be it an obsessive lover in "Darr" or a man living far apart from his love in "Veer Zaara". After demise of Yash Ji this becomes even more special.
Late Yash Chopra gives his one of the best films at the age of 80 which in itself no mean feat. His direction is impeccable and leaves you wondering about his appetite for emotional portrayal and detailing in romantic moments. Long after you leave cinema hall, scenes will linger in your heart and that is the fitting farewell to the best romantic director of Bollywood. He delivers a vintage classic romantic flick in an era full of 3rd rate remakes, loud comedies and bad actors. Thanks Yash Ji for giving us the belief over last 60 years that no matter what good cinema with clean family entertainment prevails. Salute to master!
Go for this one as this is not a film but an experience of lifetime, treasure it, cherish it.

bollywoodhungama- Taran Adarsh :

After a wait of eight long years, the master storyteller, the most admired and revered director of our times, Yash Chopra, returns with his new motion picture. Regrettably, JAB TAK HAI JAAN happens to be the last film of one of the greatest raconteurs of our times.
Katrina is the classic Yash Chopra heroine. An enigmatic beauty, who doubles up as a seductress [watch her in the 'Saans' track or the music piece]. She looks ethereal and enacts her part with elegance and restraint. As a matter of fact, she glides into her part with effortlessness and acts out some of the difficult moments with flourish. In view of the fact that a major portion of the story focuses on SRK and Katrina, one might assume that Anushka's role is more of a supporting one, but that's entirely fallacious. She's an integral part of this story and it must be said that she walks away with some of the best scenes and lines in the movie. Her performance is full of grit.
