Why Eco-Friendly Idols?

Traditional Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols harm rivers and lakes when immersed. Eco-friendly idols made from clay, paper, or natural materials dissolve safely and protect the environment.

Materials You’ll Need

  • Natural clay or shadu mitti (available in craft shops)

  • A wooden base or small board

  • A bowl of water (for shaping)

  • Sculpting tools (or use spoons, knives, toothpicks)

  • Natural paints or food colors (avoid chemical paints)

  • Decor items: turmeric, kumkum, flowers, leaves

Step-by-Step Process

  • Prepare the Base

  • Fix clay onto a wooden board as the base for stability.

  • Shape the Idol

  • Start with a large clay ball for the body.

  • Add smaller clay pieces to form the head, trunk, arms, and legs.

  • Smoothen the surface using wet fingers.

  • Add Details

  • Use simple tools to carve Ganesha’s eyes, crown, and ornaments.

  • Keep it minimal – natural simplicity looks beautiful.

  • Dry the Idol

  • Let the idol dry in shade for 2–3 days (avoid direct sunlight to prevent cracks).

  • Color & Decorate

  • Use natural colors (haldi for yellow, kumkum for red, spinach paste for green).

  • Adorn with fresh flowers and leaves instead of plastic decor.

  • Immersion (Visarjan)

  • Immerse the idol in a bucket or tub of water at home.

  • Once dissolved, pour the clay water into your garden or under a tree.
